Medieval

I have always loved the subject of history, and no era more than the medieval era, the supposed “Dark Ages”. The reason why this subject is so dear to me is their almost alien illuminations, marginalia, and culture. The medieval era is one of my favourite non-fiction subjects to read and watch.

Three Erased Medieval Women

A series of coloured lino prints featuring Lady Aethelflaed of Mercia, Abbess Hildegard of Bingen, and Empress Matilda. All three women were either attempted or succeeded in being historically erased, either through excluded heirship (Lady Aethelflaed and Empress Matilda) or purging of written word (Aethelflaed and Hildegard of Bingen). Nevertheless, information of these women remain, no matter how diluted, and I made this series as a response to my dissertation about them.
